Therese + Cang's Wedding Tea Ceremony

Therese + Cang are the best! We felt so honored to spend the morning with them and to photograph their traditional Chinese wedding tea ceremony. It was a really great event, filled with family, friends, scrumptious food, and of course, lots of tea drinking :)

The bride and groom arrived at the groom's family's home and were served tea by his nephew.

The red sign behind them says "Happy! Happy!" which is a classic Chinese wedding symnol.

They are such an elegant and warm couple and we wish them all the best as they start their lives together as a married couple!

San Francisco Engagement Photography -- Cang + Therese

Cang + Therese are gorgeous in this photo! We spent the morning with them at Baker Beach a few weeks ago and took their engagement photos with the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in the background. It's days like these where we really can't believe that this is our full-time job!

This couple is so wonderful and we had the best time with them, running around on the beach, hiking up the sand dunes ... and spotting classic Baker Beach nudists! Haha! This is San Francisco ... what do you expect?!

We're so excited to spend more time with them on their wedding day and take photos of a traditional Chinese wedding tea ceremony. It's going to be beautiful!

Sneak Peek -- San Francisco Wedding Photography

We did a beautiful bridal shoot a few weekends ago and wanted to post a little sneak peek! The dress was stunning -- a raw silk mermaid dress by local San Francisco wedding dress designer, Jinza. The dress had so many beautiful details and made the bride look amazing! The flowers were by Honey Pear Floral Design, mixing together roses, calla lilies and delicate branches of young pussy willow, to create a vibrant and colorful bouquet. Don't you love how this photograph captures the beautiful colors of the bouquet, the curves from the dress, and the closeness of the couple with their hands intertwined? A beautiful fashion image, with a natural photographic approach. So many more photos to come!

Fabulous Wedding Flourishes

  1. A colorful orange orchid adds a pop to the groom's tux.

  2. A twist on the classic boutonniere -- a Day of the Dead skull pin.

  3. A lovely blue feather hair adornment for the bride.

  4. "Ring dude" pin = totally awesome!

  5. Handmade paper flower bracelets for all the special ladies at the wedding.

  6. Using fresh flowers to decorate the wedding scene.

    7. This bride used a bracelet and made it into a fabulous sparkly belt to go with her dress.

Eternity Ball

Bowerbird Photography covered the Eternity Ball on Valentine's Day a few weeks ago for the San Francisco Bay Guardian. This was a theme party that duplicated the experience of a wedding, albeit a wedding where all the guests are utter strangers!! Former brides ripped open their vaccum-packed wedding gowns, and grooms brushed up on their bow tying technique, for a most swank and wacky party. People dressed proper, but clowned about with a fool's care.

Okay, one bride and groom took things seriously and actually went through a public recommitment ceremony, which was casual and sweet.  The kiss was quickly followed by the bouquet toss and garter belt fling (winner got free dry-cleaning…. ha-rah!), and segued into an all-brides first dance.  Bride power!

We love shooting weddings, and this event was AWESOME to cover.  Brides could relive their wedding, saving their nails from needless anxiety, and dance the night away to some awesome 80s and 90s cover bands.  With a $150 admission fee, the attendees were seriously invested in having a good time, everyone dressed up and looked San Fran-bulous, and teetered out having drunk their money's worth.

Custom Prints and Wedding Albums

This is a 12"x12" print made of one of the Holga shots Sam took at Karin + Craig's wedding. We love that Holgas have such huge negatives, which means we can blow the images up really big (like wall-sized!) and get beautiful quality prints, with a bit of vintage flair.

Ariel is featuring a wedding album with photographs printed on archival paper, in a beautiful canvas bound book.

Custom prints and albums are wonderful gifts to give to the bride and groom so they can always remember the special moments of their wedding. Contact us at lovebirds@bowerbirdphotography.com and visit our website for more details on custom orders.

Happy New Year!!! Photographs from New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve we walked up the hill to spend the evening with our dear friends to celebrate the arrival of the new year.  We ate amazing garlicky Cuban food, played Apples-to-Apples, watched the fireworks spark over San Francisco, listened to disco jams on the turn-table, and drank a wide variety of rum drinks.

Bowerbird Photography is thankful for the love and support of our family, friends, clients, and community in 2011, and is excited to take photographs at all the wonderful weddings and family portrait sessions already booked throughout 2012, and look forward to meeting more brides and grooms in the future.  As a husband-and-wife team, we feel incredibly fortunate to be able to work together, and to collaborate with and contribute to the incredible people we meet with through our art.

Bowerbird Photography featured on BeeBeeBisous

Today, Bowerbird Photography was featured on BeeBeeBisous with wedding photographs that we took last month of David and Marke in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.  It's great to get to show off our couples' photographs on other wedding sites, and the couples love the chance to share their stories.  In the interview, we get the DL on how David and Marke met, details of their proposal, and even get some wedding advice!

Karin & Craig's San Francisco Wedding

This weekend, Bowerbird Photography had a wonderful time taking wedding photographs and wedding videos at Craig and Karin's creative and beautiful Día de los Muertos inspired celebration.  This San Francisco wedding was accented by colorful DIY decorations created by the bride and groom, and was held in a Julia Morgan designed building, the Portrero Neighborhood House, which made for a perfect wedding venue.  The twinkling Bay Bridge and S.F. cityscape  seen from the veranda provided stunning views.  Karin's sisters provided the entertainment with belly dancing and song, and the singing can be heard on this video.  This was a wedding full of life and laughs, and it was an honor to share it with their families.  Bowerbird Photography is so happy for Karin and Craig and wish these newly-weds joy, love, and more awesome dance moves for years to come!

We will post wedding photographs on this blog later this week, so check back soon.

Please leave a comment; we would love to know what you think of this wedding video.

Tying Knots ... Mattie & Curtis

Such a playful and fun wedding! Bowerbird Photography loves to meet couples who are so in love and have weddings that really reflect the people they are. And CONGRATS to Mattie who just qualified to run in the 1/2 marathon at the Olympics! Wow! So exciting!
